Short answer: take your grillz out before eating. Most removable grillz aren't designed to be worn while you chew. Food can get trapped underneath, and biting down can bend or damage the piece.
Eating
Remove your grillz before meals and snacks. Trapped food against your teeth encourages bacteria, and hard or sticky foods can distort the fit.
Drinking
Water is generally fine for short periods. Sugary, acidic or coloured drinks such as fizzy drinks, juice, coffee and alcohol can collect under the grillz and sit against your teeth. It's best to remove them first.
Good habits
- Brush your teeth before putting grillz back in
- Rinse and clean the grillz after each wear (see our care guide)
- Store them in a protection case, never loose in a pocket
- Don't sleep in them
When to speak to a dentist
If you notice sore gums, sensitivity, a bad taste or loose teeth, stop wearing your grillz and speak to a qualified dentist. Read more in do grillz damage your teeth?
