What to check on the certificate
For both shapes, look at the length-to-width ratio. Around 1.3 to 1.5 is the usual range, and it tells you how elongated the stone is before you see it. On ovals, ask to see the stone or a video, since a bow-tie shadow doesn't appear on a certificate.
